Abstract
Although Brazilian trade data shows positive trends in terms of value and volume, a number of setbacks in trade negotiations and failure to address long-standing structural issues hamper further development of trade with greater value-added and higher technology content. Thus, the challenge facing President Rousseff is resolving issues related to boosting Brazil’s business competitiveness, improving export financing, containing currency appreciation and understanding the implications of Brazil’s evolving export profile. How the government deals with them will impact on Brazil’s further socio-economic development.
