Abstract
The status of technological and scientific skill attainment by American Indian individuals and the science- and technology-related issues faced by Indian communities and cultures are outlined. The potential for unique Indian contributions to science as well as the potential for scientific contributions to Indian well-being are described. Factors that have contributed to science/technology problems and impeded science/technology successes among Indians are reviewed. Some recent Indian science/technology projects that provide model examples of what can work are reviewed.
