Abstract
This paper presents first results from a study of the shear response of stampable thermoplastic composites. A range of materials including unreinforced poly propylene (PP), random glass mat filled and highly filled PP have been tested in a parallel plate rheometer at 180°C. First, reproducibility of test results is examined. Then the in fluence of fibers and coupling agent on shear behavior is presented. Finally the "lofted structures" configuration adopted by the preforms upon heating and their structural changes during stamping are discussed.
