Abstract
Although professors of special education often discuss the use of cooperative learning techniques in K-12 classrooms, they seldom model these techniques in their own courses, in spite of the current call for reform in college teaching by those who advocate the use of collaborative strategies. Although the literature on cooperative learning in schools differs in some ways from that on collaborative learning in college classrooms, there are many similarities and shared concerns. In this article, we integrate some of the research from these two settings and suggest ways in which collaborative learning can be put into operation at the college or university level, especially in special education courses.
