Abstract
The recent emphasis on community-based instruction calls for instructional arrangements that differ considerably from traditional classroom practices. This relatively new approach to special education for students with moderate and severe handicaps requires examination and modification of curriculum and instruction by teachers and administrators. The purpose of this survey was to examine the views of teachers with community-based instruction experience related to instructing students in community settings. Special education teachers and college students majoring in special education who taught in community settings for a 4-month period completed a questionnaire regarding their experiences and the implications for community instruction. The questionnaire results suggested implications both for the continuation of community instruction and the preparation of teachers to provide this instruction.
