Abstract
In this paper I examined undergraduate student identity issues in relation to the elimination of the Department of Consumer Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The purpose of writing this paper was to provide some insight into our students’ identity, particularly in relation to the broader academic community. A feminist perspective (both theory and method) was used to examine gender issues that exist within textiles and clothing and gender bias in the larger academic community that impacts our female-dominated field.
