Abstract
Benefits consumerism is a reality. Employees may understand why providers and employers are making this move. But the real test for these plans will come at that point where the consumers actually must adopt and use the new plans. Employers are asking a lot of them, and they are going to need help. The most important component of these new plans is an integrated set of decision-support tools to help them with the new decisions they face, not only to elect the new plan, but to make the best decisions about investment, spending, providers and treatments.
