Equations for specific optical density vs. time and its rate of in crease have been derived from the previously developed non-dimensional equa tions using a new concept of delay time for smoke release. Tests on sixteen materials used in passenger rail vehicles confirmed the appropriateness of the equations for the non-piloted NBS smoke test.
