Abstract
The vital role played by the private sector of the waste disposal industry in the U.K. is defined. Already major participators in the disposal of domestic, commercial and industrial wastes they now offer and execute waste collection services on behalf of some local authorities. Almost all the Nations' resources for the disposal of hazardous wastes are owned and operated by private sector companies many of them members of the National Association of Waste Disposal Contractors. In the innovative field of waste recovery and reclamation, the private companies have developed and operated several novel plants and processes and they continue to invest in the future patterns of the industry. The author makes the case for a new partnership setting aside the prejudice of past times.
