Abstract
The effect of specimen diameter on impact force and stress is studied using a common mouthguard material, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer. A semi-empirical model to relate specimen diameter with impact force at different impact energy levels is developed. Impact tests were conducted to verify the model. It was found that experimental results are in good agreement with predictions for specimens involving small deformation, but are in less favourable agreement with those involving large and plastic deformation.
