Abstract
Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) mechanical joints are popular applied in aircraft structures, however, over tolerance holes can occur during CFRP drilling. In this paper, a resin polymer-gasket riveting method was developed for CFRP over tolerance hole repairing. The riveting test was conducted, and riveting damage behaviors were characterized. Moreover, both tensile shear and pull-out performances of CFRP resin polymer-gasket riveted joints were accessed. Results showed that gasket riveting could effectively limit the uneven expansion of the rivet forming head reducing CFRP riveting damage, and also increase the contact area between rivet forming head and CFRP surface improving joining mechanical performances. Besides, the resin polymer-gasket riveting method could be useful in CFRP over tolerance hole joining, however, both tensile shear and pull-out performances reduced.
