This is an account, by a faculty member, of a successful clerical workers’ strike at Long Island’s Adelphi University that took place in 1989. The author explains that neither the unionized full-time faculty nor the contingent instructors, whose status was quite precarious, could honor the clerical workers’ picket lines. Nonetheless, faculty and other nonstriking employees found numerous ways to support the strike. Student strike support manifestations were equally consistent and varied.
