Abstract
Nowadays aging is seen as a phase in life when the general balance of single, interrelated parameters may be such as to ensure the individual an active role in society. The annual world growth in the elderly population is estimated at around 2.4%, so Italy can expect to have a demographic situation in the year 2015 of 13 million sixty-year-olds and over, which will equate to 29% of the whole population. The Italian parliament has approved a project aiming to achieve “Health protection for the elderly”, which calls for the creation of geriatric evaluation units. The two major disabilities in the elderly are motor deficiencies and incontinence. Improvement in social and health care response are the “uro-rehabilitation areas”.
