Abstract
The newly unearthed tombstone of Guo Zhongli (郭仲礼) offers a fresh perspective for examining the transformation of the Guo family. The Guo Ziyi (郭子仪) family's rose to prominence after the An-Shi Rebellion. However, their attitude became increasingly cautious over time, mainly due to imperial suspicion. This transforming is well documented in tomb inscriptions and historical biographies, which are filled with strong literary elements, and it was historical biographies, which are filled with strong literary elements, and it was prompted by the Guo family's repeated obstacles in military service and title succession, leading them to consider transformation. As a result, their pursuit of careers through imperial examinations, the Guo family sought to transition from a military family to a civil official family, transformation that was beginning to show results.
