Abstract
Many fathers faced the challenges from their sons in medieval Europe. When fathers represented their entire household including their sons, there were possibilities of father–son conflicts and revolts of sons against their fathers. This article investigates the medieval father–son relationship in a gender-based context. The deepening academic debates about the construction of masculinities will lead to an examination of the ways in which men interacted with each other.
