Congenital tracheal stenosis is an uncommon cause of stridor and can be associated with other anomalies. It may present anytime during childhood depending on the severity of the lesion. The anaesthetist may be involved in all stages of management of this problem; from diagnostic investigations to surgical correction.
Various methods of tracheoplasty have been described, some requiring cardiopulmonary bypass support and others may be carried out with conventional ventilatory techniques.
