Abstract
A former editor of the banned paper Özgür Gündem, Ocak Isik Yurtçu is currently serving 15 years in prison for charges under the anti-terror law. In December last year both Reporters Sans Frontières and the Committee to Protect Journalists gave Yurtçu awards in recognition of his work. CPJ commended his ‘extraordinary devotion to the principles of press freedom through extensive and balanced reporting of the Kurdish conflict’
