I use the term ‘postcolonial theory’ here to avoid confusion. But my usual practice is to emphasise the debate between Marxism and postmodernism/poststructuralism, so as to not to concede the entire ground of ‘postcolonial studies’ – a very productive space for discussing postcolonial literature, history and society – to the postmodernists.
