Abstract
On 16 September 2006, the Institute of Race Relations held a conference, ‘Racism, Liberty and the War on Terror’, at Conway Hall, London, attended by over 250 participants, including human rights activists, community workers, lawyers, students, radical academics and solidarity groups. Following keynote speeches by Gareth Peirce and A. Sivanandan, the conference split into panel discussions. In a special extended section, we publish here both keynote speeches, extracts from the panel discussions on the impact of the ‘war on terror’ internationally and in the UK, the future of multiculturalism, and the closing address by Salma Yaqoob.
