Abstract
The aim of this research was to study the personality characteristics and attitude to religion of church musicians. An opportunity sample of 168 church musicians whose median age was 54, completed a questionnaire on their musical activities, personality and religious beliefs. Personality type as assessed by the Francis Psychological Type Scales differed from the type reported to be characteristic for many musicians, in that the participants showed more preference for thinking over feeling and sensing over intuition. Like many musicians they were introvert rather than extravert and favoured judging over perceiving. With few exceptions, they scored high on the Francis Attitude toward Christianity Scale.
