We would like to thank Drs Salgado and Cassali for their letter to Veterinary Pathology concerning our article “Classification and Grading of Canine Mammary Tumors.” 1 As our publication states, this new proposed classification was completed in 2010 and incorporates all of the common and new histologic subtypes known at that time. As more mammary neoplasms are evaluated by veterinary pathologists, it is likely that additional subtypes will be identified and published. However, we believe that the classification and grading system that we have proposed covers the majority of the mammary neoplasms encountered by veterinary pathologists. Furthermore, 2 follow-up publications based on the proposed classification demonstrate the utility of this system.2,3
