Abstract
Five cases of papillary tumors in the thyroid gland and in the lateral portion of the neck are described. The tumors were present in both females and males aged 7–54 years. The evidence tends to confirm the suggestion that, in contrast to microscopical benign features, these tumors are biologically malignant. They tend to invade the lymphatic vessels and to give metastases in cervical lymph nodes. The term lateral aberrant thyroid tumor should be used with caution: these tumors, until individually proved otherwise, should be regarded as metastases of tumor from the thyroid gland to lymph nodes in the lateral portion of the neck.
