In 8 women with peritoneal carcinosis from ovarian carcinoma, the exsudate has been cytologically examined before and after introduction of Au198 into peritoneum. Necrosis of the tumour cells has been observed in the first days, followed later by phenomena of cell hypertrophia and cytoplasm vacuolization. Such cytological modifications are no more recognizable 20-30 days after isotope administration and appear to be unrelated to dosage and histological tumour type.
