This article examines the relationship between competitive market structure and marketing organization and strategy of private-sector manufacturers in LDCs.1 A survey of industrial firms in Venezuela sheds new light on the debate as to whether marketing activity hinders or promotes greater competition and consumer welfare in LDCs.
