Abstract
This review essay examines two volumes published by a group of Polish and American scholars based on a 25-year panel survey (1988–2013), and a third book that reflects the methodological and technical issues related to three years of comparative research on political protests, by Polish and US scholars. The books focus on the research methodology and provide a comprehensive analysis of empirical data related to the radical transformation of political, economic, and social life in Poland. On the one hand, they offer methodological insights on how to analyze large survey datasets in order to describe theoretical linkages between political protest and its determinants in society. On the other hand, the books provide new knowledge on social differentiation and social inequality in Poland. The findings from Polish research can be useful for comparative analysis of other countries in Central and Eastern Europe also experiencing the processes of transformation.
