Abstract
Due to their excellent properties and flexibility, the components made through Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) of aluminium alloys are in huge demand. This review concisely provides the classification of additive manufacturing and WAAM, highlighting the defects during their fabrication, whereas the effect of various parameters involved during WAAM processing are emphasized. The mechanical properties of WAAM-AA are discussed, including as-deposited, horizontal and vertical directions, rolling loads, and heat treatments. Moreover, it addresses the recent advancements of heating and cooling cycles during processing, structural topology optimization and finite element modelling approaches, which can significantly enhance the microstructure and mechanical properties of WAAM-AA. It is recommended to consider process improvement, usage of AI technology and implementation of multi-materials for industrial demands.
