Abstract
Information systems have been seen as key tools in the facilitation of knowledge creation, storage, transfer and use, and there is an abundance of literature and case studies detailing use of such systems for these purposes in large firms. However, very little attention has considered their application in small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This study, therefore, presents a case study of an SME’s use of information systems in its management of knowledge. The findings show that such systems can aid the management of knowledge within SMEs, but that there are dangers for SMEs in over-reliance on these systems and, indeed, having too many competing systems.
