Abstract
The article describes the methods of assessment and treatment used in planning, carrying out, and evaluating a four-week Summer School for language-delayed and language-disordered children of primary school age. It includes a discussion of the criteria used for admission; problems of assessment; a comparison of non-standard and standard tests and test results; a description of a locally devised informal assessment; the use made of the Bloom and Lahey expressive language assessment; the use of assessments in planning the Summer School; and the role of 'teaching themes'. There is also a discussion and interpretation of follow-up results, and an evaluation of course design.
