Abstract
This paper presents a case study of a 7-year-old girl with severe language disorder. It explores her input language processing skills using theoretically motivated questions derived from a psycholinguistic framework. It compares her performance on experimental tasks to age matched controls (n = 28). This exploration revealed multiple processing deficits, including auditory discrimination problems. The second phase of the study was a treatment period targeting auditory discrimination. The child’s auditory discrimination improved but these gains did not generalize to other language processes. The paper discusses the results with reference to a developing system.
