Abstract

Access to information about services and support is an important part of the rehabilitation process for patients diagnosed with sight loss. Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH) has worked in partnership with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and Henshaws Society for Blind People to create an information pack aimed at patients attending the Low Vision clinic, named ‘See for Yourself: An Information Pack for People with Sight Loss’. To assess its impact, satisfaction questionnaires were sent to 182 patients receiving the pack, and the results analysed. Overall, 94.4 per cent of respondents rated the pack ‘very’ or ‘quite’ useful, with 90.5 per cent of respondents feeling the pack contained the right amount of information. Very positive comments were received. The ‘See for Yourself’ pack will continue to play a role in the provision of low vision services at MREH, and its use may be expanded to other service providers in the future.
