This article attempts to describe relationships between major disorders and minority group children, in this case, Asian-American children. Although HEW officially recognizes the Asian as a minority group, the general public has little understanding of the group in terms of its cultural diversity and racial discrimination it has experienced. Thus, first, cultural diversities within the group and racism against the group are discussed. Secondly, based on Sue and Sue's (1973) conceptualization, 3 types of social-personality patterns — (1) traditionalist, (2) marginal person, and (3) Asian-American — are introduced. Thirdly, the relationship between specific types of behavior disorders and the 3 reaction patterns are discussed. Finally, the article suggests some teaching principles for teachers of Asian-American children with behavior disorders.
