Abstract
Program Description:
This miniseminar will highlight advances in science and management of extra esophageal reflux. For decades, management of reflux has focused on acid suppression, often with variable patient outcome. Advances in understanding the mechanism of extra esophageal reflux have demonstrated the importance of all reflux events, from acid to alkaline. This miniseminar will feature thought provoking perspectives from leaders in translational and clinical research. Pathophysiology, surgical, and medical management of extra esophageal reflux will be highlighted.
Educational Objectives:
1) Evaluate the impact of reflux mediated injury to the epithelia of the upper aerodigestive tract. 2) Recognize that management of reflux is more than acid suppression. Appreciate the role of surgical management of extraesophageal symptoms. 3) Identify shifts in management of reflux mediated laryngitis.
