Abstract
Program Description:
The largest change to the healthcare system in our history is coming and careful planning will be necessary in order to successfully implement and use the ICD-10 coding system. Attendees will participate in an interactive panel discussion about the importance of starting now and how your practice will be impacted by clinical documentation issues. Topics included in the discussion will provide a timeline of essential activities for implementation and what hurdles to anticipate in preparation for implementation. Presenters will also review commonly billed ear, nose, and throat (ENT) ICD-9 diagnosis codes and what they will look like in ICD-10-CM.
Educational Objectives:
1) Evaluate how the transition to ICD-10-CM will impact physician practice and resources offered through the Academy to help prepare your practices. 2) Recognize why an implementation timeline is important for successful implementation and how the proper steps can lessen impact of implementation on October 1, 2014. 3) Interpret ENT case examples for clinical documentation hurdles and specificity required in ICD-10-CM to properly assign codes.
