Abstract
Consumer math skills are a critical prerequisite to independent functioning. Mildly handicapped students are often hampered in developing consumer math skills as a result of their characteristically poor computational performance. This paper describes an attempt to assist mildly handicapped students in overcoming their math deficits through the use of a pocket calculator. A research and development model was used to develop and validate an instructional package on calculator skills. Data are provided on 50 students involved in the formative and summative phases of the package development
