Abstract
School counselors and psychologists play a crucial role in the lives of gifted students both through their counseling function and their com-munications with other staff members in program development and maintenance. The present study surveyed attitudes toward the gifted of fifty-eight pupil personnel workers in three rural New York counties using the Wiener Attitude Scale. Surprisingly, the existence of a program for gifted students in the district produced a significantly more negative total score on the scale. The survey participants responded in a significantly more negative fashion to statements pertaining to Selection, Grouping and Evaluation Factors. Inservice experiences for this group of school personnel appeared warranted to counter those experiences which produced the most negative responses.
