Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine competency areas for training teachers of gifted and talented children. Thirty colleges and universities in the United States which offered such training were surveyed to comment on state certification issues and to rate competency areas as to their respective value as standards. Also a sample of principals and teachers who work with gifted programs in Colorado was surveyed using the same instrument. The survey resulted in a set of recommendations for state certification and list of competencies individually rated by the three respondent groups.
