In this article, the author analyses some of Robert Owen’s labour proposals. Owen was a renowned utopian socialist and, for many, the father of British socialism. Some of Owen’s labour proposals became a reality during the 19th and 20th centuries. The article summarizes his main concrete contributions and reflects on how Owen’s ideas can help us today, especially regarding his perspective on public welfare and his ideas contrary to technological determinism.
