Abstract
This research note explores digital nomadism in Southeast Asia as a form of North-South migration post-COVID-19 pandemic. Based on interviews with digital nomads across the region, it highlights a paradox: While they are an especially privileged form of migrants, their very privilege creates feelings of dislocation that are difficult to mitigate, making this lifestyle challenging to sustain. Digital nomads attempt to mitigate these challenges through fostering relationships, connecting with nature and gaining cultural perceptions while maintaining ties to their places of origin. This study offers potential new avenues of investigation into the future of work and mobility, situated in Southeast Asian Studies.
