Abstract
Without ready access to nursing manpower, nursing intervention data and literature retrieval, nurses are disadvantaged in practice, scholarship, and health policy decisions. The development of a global nursing database is urged. Three components to incorporate in this database are: The number and distribution of nurses, nursing care information, and nursing literature retrieval. It is important to create a demand for such a global database and to reach minimal consensus in the structure of an information system. A global nursing network is urged as a means to develop a strategic plan, launch demonstration projects, and promote information exchange and collaboration.
