Abstract
Background:
Studies have shown that a need for education exists among nurses in regards to interventions for smoking cessation. But knowledge is lacking about what kind of support education might give nurses in their interventions for smoking cessation.
Aim:
The aim of this study was to describe nurse's education in regards to smoking cessation and in what way the curriculum supports nursing interventions in smoking cessation. Method: The study was conducted as a research-study where thirteen scientific articles were analyzed with deductive content analysis with Fawcetts metaconcepts for nursing.
Result:
The analysis resulted in four themes depicting the support education can give the nurse when using interventions for smoking cessation;
Conclusion:
Education can support the nurse for performing interventions in smoking cessation in finding knowledge about one's own role and beliefs; in how the nurse can motivate and treat patients, in creating supporting relations for the patients and supporting the nurse's own ability and self-esteem in nursing interventions.
