Abstract
This paper discusses the factors, other than stoppage of the drug, which influence dechallenge. These include: time to improvement and/or time to resolution, irreversibility or partial irreversibility, tolerance or desensitization, confounding treatment of the adverse event, natural limitations, replacement therapy, reasonable time to offset, delayed or latent adverse drug reaction (ADR), dechallenge of two or more drugs simultaneously, double dechallenge, placebo dechallenge, drug withdrawal or rebound effect, stop or reduce the dose, and drug-drug interaction. Much remains to be learned about the responses to dechallenge.
