Abstract
This paper evaluates the effectiveness of a pharmaceutical-based drug information service (PBDIS). Four hundred ninety-five health care providers from all specialties throughout the United States and 1,000 Glaxo medical service representatives completed surveys designed to assess the effectiveness of the Drug Information Service (DIS) at Glaxo Inc. Health care practitioners and medical service representatives were satisfied with the services offered by Glaxo's PBDIS. Services offered were very useful, the DIS was reasonably accessible, and the responses provided appropriate information in an understandable and efficient manner. Nearly all respondents indicated they were likely to request information from the DIS in the future. The services offered by Glaxo's PBDIS are very useful to the individuals who use them. Health care providers should be aware of and use the services of Glaxo's PBDIS and familiarize themselves with the type of information a PBDIS can provide.
