The spanking of children as a technique in child-rearing is discussed from both a biblical and a psychological perspective. It is suggested that there is no clear teaching from the Bible that all children should be spanked. Psychologically, the negative features associated with spanking suggest that children should not be spanked severely or frequently, if at all.
