Abstract
Dynamic filling yam tension was measured on a Sulzer projectile weaving machine using two different yams: 50/2 Ne PES/wool blend and a 2/150/30 denier textured PES. The filling tension was monitored with a specially designed transducer. The effect of intermediate yarn feeding devices on the filling tension was analyzed. The yarn tension traces were investigated for pick insertion, tension compensation, and projectile checking mechanisms. Fabric samples were woven under different filling tension levels and then tested for fabric weight, fabric width, fabric shrinkage, and crimp levels. An attempt was made to correlate the filling tension and the fabric properties.
