Abstract
This paper, in general terms, treats the morphology of spunbonded nonwovens as related to fabric properties and de scribes some characterization techniques which have been useful in establishing mophological structure. A generalized description of spunbonded processes is given. The dependence of fabric functional properties and aesthetics on basic structural parameters (1) weight uniformity, (2) filament separation, and (3) filament directionality is discussed. The character of weight nonuniformity and methods of measuring uniformity are described. Methods of measuring filament separation and directionality are described.
