Abstract
An integrated system for cleaning cotton at textile mills is under development at the Southern Regional Research Laboratory. The theory and general design of the system and of one of its component machines, the Opener-Cleaner, are discussed.
The results of laboratory evaluations, usitig tivr commercial varieties of cotton, are presented. Comparisons of the processing performance of a conventtonat opening-picking line and an experimental line w ith the Opener-Cleaner are favorable to the experimental line. The Opener-Cleaner, alone, provides 35% cleaning efficiency and 0.3% lint loss at 1500 lb./hr. production.
