Abstract
A novel hemicyanine fluorescent dye, namely trans-4-[p-(N,N-Diethyl)-amino-styryl]-N-aminoethyl pyridinium chloride (DEASPCl-N(AE)), was synthesized and characterized by using infrared, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry, elementary analysis, ultraviolet-visible and single-photon fluorescence spectra. DEASPCl-N(AE) has been employed in dyeing cotton fabrics following crosslinking dyeing procedures. The fixation rate test, dimethylformamide bleeding experiment, and color fastness test certified that DEASPCl-N(AE) was linked to the cotton fiber through covalent bonds. Cotton fabrics dyed with DEASPCl-N(AE) exhibited excellent fluorescent properties and could be used as fluorescent reddish orange clothing.
