One of the controversial issues arising from English globalization is the notion of standardization in speaking. It is clear that graduates who speak English as a second language are far more likely to use it to communicate with other non-native speakers than with native speakers. Should this mean that some features of the language become less important as linguistic imperialism finally loses hold? In the context of Hong Kong, should Standard English be taught?
