Abstract
In a time of statewide mandates for program adoption and teacher shortages everywhere, it is essential for leaders to consider their own teachers and students and ensure the literacy programs they adopt meet their needs. This means supporting our professionals to ensure their instructional programs are matched, manageable, and moving. Matched programs allow educators to understand what students need and provide appropriate instruction. Manageable programs give teachers sufficient resources without overwhelming them. Moving programs enable students to move forward in their learning, instead of stalling out.
