Abstract
How schools use time is an evergreen issue in education. No matter what time of year it is, time — or the lack of time — is always up for debate. But we have neglected one of the most crucial areas for using time more effectively: how teachers use their time. The editor proposes that teachers spend half of their work week on instruction and the other half on their own learning, and collaboration with colleagues. She also proposes that teachers work a full year, instead of an abbreviated academic year.
